Vishu വിഷു is an important Kerala festival celebrated in the month of  "Medam" and a Hindu festival in the Indian state of Kerala and as Bisu in the Mangalore & Udupi Districts Karnataka State, usually in the second week of April in the Gregorian calendar.

ഓണം കഴിഞ്ഞാല്‍ കേരളീയരുടെ പ്രധാന ആഘോഷമാണ് വിഷു. കേരളത്തിലെ കാർഷികോത്സവമാണ്‌ വിഷു. മലയാളമാസം മേടം ഒന്നിനാണ്‌ വിഷു ആഘോഷിക്കുന്നത്‌. അടുത്ത ഒരു കൊല്ലത്തെ വർഷഫലത്തെ കുറിച്ചും ഇക്കാലയളവിൽ ജനങ്ങൾ ചിന്തിക്കുന്നു. വിഷുഫലം എന്നാണ്‌ ഇതിനു പറയുക. കേരളത്തിൽ മാത്രമല്ല അയൽ സംസ്ഥാനങ്ങളിൽ അതിർത്തിയോട് ചേർന്നു കിടക്കുന്ന പ്രദേശങ്ങളിലും വിഷു ആഘോഷിക്കാറുണ്ട്. ഭാരതത്തിലെ മിക്ക സംസ്ഥാനങ്ങളിലും സമാനമായ ആഘോഷങ്ങൾ ഉണ്ട്. എല്ലായിടത്തും ഭാരതത്തിൽ മുൻപ് നിലവിലിരുന്ന പഞ്ചാംഗം പ്രകാരമുള്ള വർഷാരംഭമാണ്‌ ഈ ദിനം.

'പൊലിക പൊലിക ദൈവമേ തൻ നെൽ പൊലിക' എന്നും മറ്റുമുള്ള പുള്ളുവപ്പാട്ടും വിഷുവിന്റെ ഐശ്വര്യദായക സ്വഭാവത്തെയാണ്‌ കാണിക്കുന്നത്‌. വിഷുവിനു ചെയ്യുന്ന കാര്യങ്ങളുടെ ഫലങ്ങൾ അടുത്ത ഒരു കൊല്ലക്കാലം നിലനിൽക്കുന്നു എന്നാണ്‌ വിശ്വാസം.

Vishu Celebrations

Vishu is celebrated with much fanfare and vigour in all parts of Kerala. It is considered a festival of light and fireworks, and decorating lights and bursting of firecrackers (Vishupadakkam) is part of the celebration. Other elements of Vishu include buying of new clothes (Puthukodi) for the occasion, the tradition of giving money called Vishukkaineetam, and the Vishu feast or Sadya, which consist of equal proportions of salty, sweet, sour and bitter items. Feast items include Veppampoorasam, Mampazhappulissery, Vishu kanji and Vishu katta.

വിഷു എന്നാൽ തുല്യമായത് എന്നർത്ഥം. അതായത് രാത്രിയും പകലും തുല്യമായ ദിവസം.മേടം ഒന്നിന് മേട വിഷുവും തുലാം ഒന്നിനു തുലാ വിഷുവും ഉണ്ട്.

The most important event in Vishu is the Vishukkani, which literally means "the first thing seen on the day of Vishu after waking up". The Vishukkani consists of a ritual arrangement of auspicious articles intended to signify prosperity, including rice, fruits and vegetables, betel leaves, arecanut, metal mirror, yellow flowers called konna (Cassia fistula), holy texts and coins, usually in the prayer room of the house. This is arranged the night before Vishu and is the first sight seen on Vishu. On Vishu, devotees often visit temples like Sabarimala Ayyappan Temple or Guruvayur Sree Krishna temple to have a 'Vishukkani Kazhcha' (viewing) in the early hours of the day.

Vishukkani വിഷുക്കണി

കുടുംബത്തിലെ മുതിർന്ന സ്ത്രീകൾക്കാണ്‌ വിഷുക്കണി ഒരുക്കുവാനും അത്‌ കാണിക്കുവാനുമുള്ള ചുമതല. തേച്ചൊരുക്കിയ ഓട്ടുരുളിയിൽ അരിയും നെല്ലും ഉപയോഗിച്ച്‌ പാതി നിറച്ച്‌, കൂടെ അലക്കിയ , മുണ്ടും, പൊന്നും, വാൽക്കണ്ണാടിയും, കണിവെള്ളരിയും, കണിക്കൊന്നയും, പഴുത്ത അടയ്ക്കയും വെറ്റിലയും, കണ്മഷി, ചാന്ത്, സിന്തൂരം, നാരങ്ങ എന്നിവയും കിഴക്കോട്ട് തിരിയിട്ട് കത്തിച്ച നിലവിളക്കും, നാളികേരപാതിയും, ശ്രീകൃഷ്ണന്റെ വിഗ്രഹവും വെച്ചാണ്‌ വിഷുക്കണി ഒരുക്കുക. കണിക്കൊന്ന പൂക്കൾ വിഷുക്കണിയിൽ നിർബന്ധമാണ്‌. ഐശ്വര്യസമ്പൂർണ്ണമായ അതായത്‌ പ്രകാശവും, ധനവും, ഫലങ്ങളും, ധാന്യങ്ങളും എല്ലാം ചേർന്ന വിഷുക്കണി കണ്ടുണരുമ്പോൾ, പുതിയൊരു ജീവിതചംക്രമണത്തിലേക്കുള്ള വികാസമാണത്രെ സംഭവിക്കുക. ചിലയിടങ്ങളിൽ കുറിക്കൂട്ടും, ഗ്രന്ഥവും, വെള്ളിപ്പണം, ചക്ക, മാങ്ങ മുതലായവയും കണിക്ക് വെയ്ക്കാറുണ്ട്‌. കത്തിച്ച ചന്ദനത്തിരിയും, വെള്ളം നിറച്ച ഓട്ടുകിണ്ടിയും,പുതിയ കസവുമുണ്ടും അടുത്തുണ്ടാവണം എന്നാണ്‌ പറയുന്നത്‌. പ്രായമായ സ്ത്രീ രാത്രി കണി ഒരുക്കി ഉറങ്ങാൻ കിടക്കും. പുലർച്ചെ എഴുന്നേറ്റ് കണികണ്ട്, മറ്റുള്ളവരെ കണികാണിക്കും. ഉറക്കത്തിൽ നിന്ന് വിളിച്ചുണർത്തി പുറകിൽ നിന്നും കണ്ണുപൊത്തി കൊണ്ടുപോയാണ്‌ കണികാണിക്കുന്നത്‌. കുടുംബാംഗങ്ങൾ എല്ലാവരും കണികണ്ടാൽ പിന്നെ വീടിന്റെ കിഴക്കുവശത്ത്‌ കണികൊണ്ടുചെന്ന് പ്രകൃതിയെ കണികാണിക്കണം, അതിനു ശേഷം ഫലവൃക്ഷങ്ങളേയും, വീട്ടുമൃഗങ്ങളേയും കണികാണിക്കുന്നു.

കണി കണ്ടതിനുശേഷം ഗൃഹനാഥൻ കുടുംബാംഗങ്ങൾക്ക് നൽകുന്ന സമ്മാനമാണ് വിഷുക്കൈനീട്ടം എന്നറിയപ്പെടുന്നത്. ആദ്യകാലങ്ങളിൽ സ്വർണ്ണം, വെള്ളി എന്നിവയിൽ ഉണ്ടാക്കിയ നാണയങ്ങൾ ആയിരുന്നു നൽകിയിരുന്ന്അത്. വർഷം മുഴുവനും സമ്പൽ സമൃദ്ധി, ഐശ്വര്യം എന്നിവ ഉണ്ടാകട്ടേ എന്ന് അനുഗ്രഹിച്ചുകൊണ്ടാണ് കൈനീട്ടം. നൽകുനത്. പ്രായമായവർ പ്രായത്തിൽ കുറവുളവ്ർക്കാണ് സാധാരണ കൈനീട്ടം നൽകുന്നത് എങ്കിലും ചില സ്ഥലങ്ങളിൽ പ്രായം കുറഞ്ഞവർ മുതിർന്നവർക്കും കൈനീട്ടം നൽകാറുണ്ട്. 

The day of Vishu is often considered as the first day of the Zodiac Calendar. However, if the transit of Sun into Aries (Mesha Sankramana) occurs after dawn on the first day of the zodiac calendar, then the Vishu celebrations will be on the next day, i.e. the second day of the calendar. In 2014, first day of the calendar was on 14 April but the transit of Sun into Aries (Mesha Sankramana) occurred after 7 am. Therefore Vishu was celebrated on 15 April 2014. The Vishu Kani is meant to bring luck and prosperity for the year starting from Vishu Day Medam 1st. As Vishu marked the first day of the Malayalam Zodiac, it is considered an appropriate time to offer oblations to Hindu gods. Vishu signifies the sun's transit into the Meda Raasi (first zodiac sign) according to Indian astrological calculations, and falls on the spring equinox. During the equinox, a day has equal number of hours of daylight and darkness, which describes the origin of the word "Vishu" which in Sanskrit means "equal". Vishu is a festival, on which farmers in kerala begins their agriculture activities.

ഒരു രാശിയിൽനിന്നും അടുത്ത രാശിയിലേക്ക് സൂര്യൻ പോകുന്നതിനെ സംക്രാന്തി എന്നു പറയുന്നു.സംക്രാന്തികളിലെ പ്രധാനമായത് മഹാവിഷു എന്നും പറയുന്നു. ഈ വിശേഷ ദിവസങ്ങൾ പണ്ടു മുതലേ ആഘോഷിച്ചു വരുന്നുണ്ടാവണം. സംഘകാലത്ത് ഇതിനെക്കുറിച്ച് പരാമർശങ്ങൾ പതിറ്റുപത്ത് എന്ന് കൃതിയിൽ ഉണ്ട്. എന്നാൽ വർഷാരംഭമായി കേരളത്തിൽ ആചരിക്കുന്നത് ഒരു പക്ഷേ കൊല്ലവർഷാരംഭത്തോടെ ആയിരിക്കണം. വിഷുവങ്ങളിൽ പ്രധാനമായ മഹാവിഷു ഇപ്പൊൾ 24 ദിവസത്തോളം പിന്നിലാണ്‌. ഭൂമിയുടെ അച്ചുതണ്ടിന്റെ പുരസ്സരണം അണു് ഇതിന്‌ കാരണം. പണ്ട്‌ മേഷാദി മേടത്തിൽ ആയിരുന്നു. എന്നാൽ വിഷുവങ്ങളുടെ പുരസ്സരണം കാരണം മേഷാദി ഇപ്പോൾ മീനം രാശിയിൽ ആണ്‌. എന്നിട്ടും നമ്മൾ വിഷു ആഘോഷിക്കുന്നത്‌ മേടത്തിൽ ആണ്. ഇതേ പോലെ തുലാദി ഇപ്പോൾ കന്നി രാശിയിൽ ആണ്‌.

വിഷു വസന്തകാലമാണ് . ഋതുരാജനാണ് വസന്തം. വസന്തകാലാരംഭമാണ് ഈ ഉത്സവദിനത്തിന്‍റെ കവാടം. പ്രകൃതി പുഷ്പാഭരണങ്ങള്‍ ചാര്‍ത്തി വിഷു ദിനം കാത്തിരിക്കുന്നു. വിഷുവിന്‍റെ വരവിന് ദിവസങ്ങള്‍ക്ക് മുന്‍പ് തന്നെ നാടെങ്ങും കണിക്കൊന്നകള്‍ പൂത്തുലഞ്ഞ് നില്‍ക്കും. കിളികളുടെ പാട്ട്, വൃക്ഷങ്ങള്‍ നിറയെ ഫലങ്ങള്‍, പ്രസന്നമായ പകല്‍ എവിടെയും സമൃദ്ധിയും സന്തോഷവും.  

Vishu Sadhya  സദ്യവിഷു

The Sadhya, feast, സദ്യ  is a major part of all Kerala festivals. However, Vishu Kanji, Thoran and Vishu katta are more important during Vishu. The Kanji is made of rice, coconut milk and spices. Vishu katta is a delicacy prepared from freshly harvested rice powder and coconut milk served with jaggery. For Thoran, the side dish, there are also mandatory ingredients. Other important Vishu delicacies include Veppampoorasam (a bitter preparation of neem) and Mampazhappulissery (a sour mango soup)

മുൻ കാലങ്ങളിൽ വിഷു ആഘോഷം ആരംഭിക്കുന്നത് ഗൃഹനാഥൻ പനസം വെട്ടുന്നതോടെയാണ്. വിഷുവിന് നിർബന്ധമായും ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്ന ഒന്നാണ് വരിക്കച്ചക്ക. വിഷു ദിവസം ചക്കയ്ക്ക് പനസം എന്നു മാത്രമേ പറയാവൂ, വിഷു വിഭവങ്ങളിൽ ചക്ക എരിശ്ശേരി, ചക്ക വറുത്തത് തുടങ്ങിയ വിഭവങ്ങൾ ഉണ്ടായിരിക്കും. എരിശ്ശേരിയിൽ ചക്കയുടെ എല്ലാ ഭാഗങ്ങളും ചേർത്തിരിക്കും. ഒരു മുഴുവൻ ചക്കച്ചുള, തൊലിയോട് കൂടിയ ചക്കക്കുരു, ചക്കയുടെ കൂഞ്ഞ്, ചക്ക മടൽ, ചക്കയുടെ ഏറ്റവും പുറത്തേ മുള്ള് എന്നിവയും എരിശ്ശേരിയിൽ ചേർത്തിരിക്കും. വള്ളുവനാട് പ്രദേശങ്ങളിൽ വിഷു ദിവസം കഞ്ഞി സദ്യയായിരിക്കും പ്രധാനം. വാഴപ്പോള വൃത്താകൃതിയിൽ ചുരുട്ടി അതിൽ വാഴയില വച്ച് പഴുത്ത പ്ലാവിലകൊണ്ടാണ് തേങ്ങ ചിരകിയിട്ട് കഞ്ഞി കുടിക്കുന്നത്. ഇതിനു കൂടെ കഴിക്കാൻ ചക്ക എരിശ്ശേരിയും ചക്ക വറുത്തതും ഉണ്ടായിരിക്കും. കേരളത്തിലെ ചില ഭാഗങ്ങളിൽ ഓണസദ്യയുടേതു പോലെയുള്ള വിഭവസമൃദ്ധമായ സദ്യയും ഉണ്ടായിരിക്കും.

രാവിലെ പ്രാതലിന് ചിലയിടങ്ങളിൽ വിഷുക്കട്ട എന്ന വിഭവവും കാണാറുണ്ട്‌. നാളികേരപ്പാലിൽ പുന്നെല്ലിന്റെ അരി വേവിച്ച് ജീരകം ചേർത്ത് വറ്റിച്ചാണ് വിഷുക്കട്ട ഉണ്ടാക്കുന്നത്‌. വിഷുക്കട്ടക്ക് മധുരമോ ഉപ്പോ ഉണ്ടാവാറില്ല. ശർക്കര പാനിയോ, മത്തനും, പയറും കൊണ്ടുള്ള കറിയോ ഉപയോഗിച്ചായിരിക്കും ഇത് കഴിക്കുക. തൃശ്ശൂരിലെ വിഷുവിന് വിഷുക്കട്ട നിർബന്ധമാണ്.  ഉച്ചക്ക്‌ വിഭവസമൃദ്ധമായ സദ്യ. സദ്യയിൽ മാമ്പഴപുളിശ്ശേരി നിർബന്ധം. ചക്ക എരിശ്ശേരിയോ, ചക്കപ്രഥമനോ കാണണം. ഓണസദ്യയിൽ നിന്ന് വിഷുസദ്യക്കുള്ള വ്യത്യാസവും ഇതു തന്നെ. തൊടികളിൽ ചക്കയും മാങ്ങയും നിറഞ്ഞു നിൽക്കുന്ന കാലമായതുകൊണ്ടാവാമിത്‌. 

മേടത്തിലെ വിഷു മലയാളികള്‍ക്ക് മറക്കാനാവാത്തതാണ്. സ്വര്‍ണ്ണമണികള്‍ കൈനീട്ടമായി തരുന്ന കൊന്നയും കണിവെള്ളരിയും പുന്നെല്ലും വെള്ളിനാണയങ്ങളും വാല്‍ക്കണ്ണാടിയും നിലവിളക്കിന്റെ വെളിച്ചത്തില്‍ അണിനിരക്കുന്ന വിഷുക്കണിയും ഒരിക്കലും മായാത്ത ഓര്‍മ്മകളാണ്.എല്ലാവര്‍ക്കും നന്മയുടെയും സ്നേഹത്തിന്റെയും വിഷു ആശംസകള്‍!

Amala Paul is an Indian film actress, who works in the South Indian film industry. Her previous stage name was Anakha.

In 2013, Amala Paul tasted her first success at the Telugu Box office. Her first release in 2013 was V. V. Vinayak's directorial Naayak, opposite Ram Charan Teja. The movie went on to be one of the biggest critical as well as commercial success of the year. Her next film was Puri Jagannadh's romantic comedy Iddarammayilatho opposite Allu Arjun. Upon release, Amala's performance was highly appreciated by the critics. Sangeetha Devi Dundroo of The Hindu commented "Amala Paul manages to pull off a character that traverses a thin line between being naïve and downright silly. We wish we saw more of her." Another reviewer, Sasidhar AS from The Times of India commented "Amala Paul's characterisation is a delight, and she plays Komali so effectively that you'll be left wondering who else could have done the role better than her. She was a perfect choice to play a traditional Telugu girl." Currently, She is working in A. L. Vijay's Political thriller Thalaivaa opposite Vijay, for the first time in her career. She is also starring in Samuthirakani's Nimirndhu Nil opposite Jayam Ravi, which is simultaneously being shot in Telugu as Janda Pai Kapiraju, in which Nani is reprising the role of Jayam Ravi.

After appearing in supporting roles in the Malayalam film Neelathamara and a venture in Tamil, she received critical acclaim for the portrayal of a controversial character in the film, Sindhu Samaveli. Despite the failure of that film, Amala became noted after playing the title role in Mynaa, receiving critical acclaim for her work. Since then, she has been signed on for several notable projects and is considered a leading actress in Tamil films. She has appeared in a few Malayalam films as well.

Amala was born on 26 October 1991 in Ernakulam, Kerala to Malayali Syrian Christian parents, Paul Varghese and Annice Paul. After completing her Plus Two examinations at govt girls HSS, Aluva she took a sabbatical to begin a career in films, but has since joined St. Teresa's College in Kochi, to pursue a BA degree in English and is a currently in her third year. Her father had been strictly against Amala pursuing an acting career, but was forced to accept her decision with her older brother, Abijith, strongly backing her ambition.She later claimed she had performing arts in her DNA, revealing that her mother was a singer and her dad was into theatre in college.Amala had changed her on-screen name to Anakha, on director Samy's insistence, who cited that another actress, Amala had already made her name popular. However, after the failure of Sindhu Samaveli, she reverted to her birth name since she felt that the replacement had brought her bad luck. Amala says Anushka Shetty as her ‘role model’ and has added that she would love to follow suit in Anushka’s footsteps "I value her a lot as an actress and reasons to think her of a real-life ‘role model’ for me".
